Hi, I'm using AutoCAD 2014 through Parallels 9 and Windows 8 on my iMac (with Mavericks). I've lost the ability to pan since upgrading yesterday from Parallels 8, Windows 8, and OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I've lost the ability to pan since the upgrade without right clicking and choosing it. It wasn't great before, having to hold down the "command" button on my mac keyboard but I got used to it quickly. I also can't have anything selected when I right click to pan. Crazy! Is anyone else dealing with Mac/Parallels issues? Also, I'm using a Mac magic mouse, but I also have a Logitech scroll mouse which I hauled out and tried with the same results. I just prefer the Mac.Other related problems I had before the upgrade (I believe related to the Parallels/Mac connection) are:-inability to use the orbit command without selecting it (I finally put a button on the quick access toolbar) and escaping out-when working with solids and doing isometric layouts, the 'layout' tab should change to the 'drawing view creation' tab but it doesn't. (I'm just learning the program and I'm going by my instructor's video demonstrations) Is there a variable I can change? I couldn't find anything.-problems dimensioning in isometric layouts, sections etc (snaps don't work sometimes it's as if there's nothing to snap to, dimensions needing reassociating, radial and diameter dimensions won't 'stretch' out to where I want them and arrows changing directions when I try to stretch them (dim style settings are set correctly), section lines won't change style or weight)...I could go on, but this is too long already. I've done the repair/reinstall thing. Any advice is appreciated!!

My advice would be to ditch your Mac and get a Windows-based laptop.Did you research all this beforehand because it certainly doesn't seem so.  Specifically, did you research running Windows 8 using Parallels?

Wow, guess I didn't expect that... I did do research, maybe not enough for your standards John, but like they say, once you've gone Mac, you'll never go back. For me, there was little choice.I was advised Parallels over Bootcamp (if I didn't want to buy a Windows based computer, which I didn't, but this isn't the forum for that) and that having Parallels running Windows was the same as having Windows, only better because I didn't have to give up all my Mac stuff. I looked but probably not far enough to find someone using AutoCAD with Parallels. My instructor-to-be told me he had students using Parallels with no problems but I didn't actually chat with any of them (I'm doing online studies). I was going to get AC for Mac but he advised against it, prompting the Parallels investigation in the first place. Perhaps I should have joined this forum then and asked but I'm not much a forum kinda guy, not much spare time as it is. I can see you're a Senior Member, John, and I'm sure you've helped a lot of newbies such as myself, but sometimes, like my mom used to say, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. You never did say whether you based your comments on personal experience or ?Thanks for your reply, it didn't improve my situation, but it may prompt someone with AutoCAD/Parallels experience to step in. I'm hoping so, I could use a little help.

Wait a minute.  You have a Mac but you don't have AutoCAD for Mac.  Why did you elect to go with the Windows based version of AutoCAD?  If you are a student you should have been able to download AC for Mac for free. Why did you make the change from Parallels 8 to 9 in the first place? When you did the uninstall/reinstall what procedure did you follow? Why do people who literally mix "Apples" with oranges seem so surprised when something goes awry?  When you run one operating system atop another you're just begging for trouble.  Add to that the complexities of an AutoDesk program well you've just compounded the project ten fold.

Yes, my instructor should be the "go to" person here but when I asked him some of the above questions, he replied with 'what it should be' instead of 'what it is' and I felt I might get a better response through a forum and not bug him. Yeah, I know, he should be the guy to bug... He's on Windows himself like you, and it didn't sound from his answers like he had any real experience on the matter so I expanded my horizon.I did go through the Discussion Groups and other forums looking for solutions but this was my first posting on the issue. Such a time user, I didn't go far enough. AutoDesk's Mac Group is a great idea, I'll expand my horizons a little more. One way or the other, I'll get something figured out. Tried MBUTTONPAN with no luck. And, embarrassingly enough, 3D Osnap wasn't enabled, only 2D. It must have defaulted back to it after the first reinstall I did. And I didn't check. That cured some of my dimensioning woes, just one stubborn one that keeps wanting to be reassociated, even after being reassociated... Thank you!
