How to detect duplicate elements in a 3D model?

A - answer When working in a 3D model, you may inadverently copy objects to the same position. The schedules and mass calculations then report additional elements, which may have negative consequences e.g. when ordering purchased parts.

One of the options how to check the model for duplicate elemenst is using the application Autodesk Navisworks Manage. Navisworks Manage allows to search for duplicate elements in its collisions check (Clash Detective) – see the option "Duplicates" in the clash type setting:
