The easiest way to count entities in a drawing is to open the Properties window (Ctrl+1) and select all entities in the drawing - press Ctrl+A. The number in the first row of the Properties window is the number of all objects in thawed layers in all layouts and in the model space.
Total number incl. non-graphical objects is displayed in the _STATUS command.
