You can use Excellink (www.cadstudio.cz/excellink) for this. In Excel, link the Z-coordinate of a block to the value of its "Z" attribute. Z-coordinate (height/elevation) of the existing blocks (insertions) will be changed by Excellink (uncheck the "Ignore property columns" option in Excellink).

You can also use the opposite way (display the true Z-coordinate of a block in an attribute value).
