You can control MText letter spacing (tracking, distance between characters) using the \Tn; control code. Try e.g. to enter text:
\T2;wide spacing\T1;normal\T1.2;widertext
- please note you have to use other MText editor than the internal (set MTEXTED temporarily to e.g. notepad.exe, or to MtEdit.exe from DL Download).

In higher versions of AutoCAD you can use the standard internal text editor and its context ribbon "Text editor" - its function Formatting > Tracking (the a.b icon).
