There are several approaches for making parts of your AutoCAD drawing "inactive" - i.e. not including it into osnaps, hatch borders, etc.

  1. You can lock some layers - locked layers do not participate on edit operations.
  2. You can WBLOCK some parts of your drawing, erase them and reattach them as an Xref. Attached xrefs can be suppressed.
  3. You can publish your drawing to a DWF file and reaattach it (at the same coordinates) as an underlay with the DWFATTACH command. The DWFOSNAP variable controls the object snaps on DWF "entities".
