How to export OBJ including materials, textures from Inventor?

A - answer Exporting CAD formats from Inventor preserves most of the features and properties in 3D models of parts and assemblies. Even exporting to the 3D format .obj preserves the material and texture (appearance) settings assigned to specific parts or faces. The materials and textures are contained in the accompanying .mtl files and any texture image files.

Therefore, perform a standard export from Inventor to the OBJ format (File > Export > CAD Format > OBJ).

See an example of exporting a hoist assembly from the CAD Block Library - Block 20991. To view the resulting OBJ in the online OBJ viewer (Converters section), the referenced textures need to be uploaded at the same time as the .obj model and .mtl file describing the materials (and modify the path to the textures - see the hoist chipboard frame and rope; not needed for standard use of the OBJ):
