Q - question

How to import maps from a WMTS source into Civil or Map 3D?

A - answer Both AutoCAD Map 3D and Autodesk Civil 3D (since version 2021) do support - beside WMS and others - also the WMTS (Web Map Tile Service) mapping services. The WMTS map sources use pre-generated mapping tiles and so they load the map underlays faster compared to the existing WMS services.

Run the command MAPCONNECT and in the main GIS sources dialog, select WMTS on the bottom and specify the web address of the online map source.

Examples of Czech and Slovak map sources:

  • Orthophoto map CUZK: http://ags.cuzk.cz/arcgis/rest/services/ortofoto_wm/MapServer/WMTS/1.0.0/WMTSCapabilities.xml
  • Base map CUZK in standard scales (up to 1:10000): http://ags.cuzk.cz/arcgis/rest/services/zmwm/MapServer/WMTS/1.0.0/WMTSCapabilities.xml
  • Slovak cadastral maps: https://kataster.skgeodesy.sk/eskn/rest/services/NR/kn_wmts_norm_wm/MapServer/WMTS
