You probably often need to measure distances of points and other objects in AutoCAD Civil 3D projects. Sometimes you want to know the horizontal distance, in the plan view, in the XY plane - i.e. without respecting heights (Z-coordinates).

For this functionality you can use the commands CgCDist (running distance/length) and CgSList with the Points option (includes slopes). The standard AutoCAD commands DIST and MEASUREGEOM measure only the inclined distance, "in 3D".
