Where does AutoCAD 2004 search for drawing xrefs?

A - answer AutoCAD 2004 with its functions for Xref relative paths uses the following order of folders to search for an external reference file:
  1. Explicit path associated with xref
  2. Current folder of the host drawing
  3. Project paths
  4. Paths defined as Support paths
  5. Start-in folder
