Where does AutoCAD 2004 search for drawing xrefs?

AutoCAD 2004 with its functions for Xref relative paths uses the following order of folders to search for an external reference file:

Explicit path associated with xref
Current folder of the host drawing
Project paths
Paths defined as Support paths
Start-in folder
