You can use the Capacity Meter (Inventor 11) to count the parts in an assembly:

- the left number indicates the number of component occurences in the current session, the number on the right is the number of opened unique documents (ipt, iam, idw...).

You can also use BOM or the "CountParts" macro from CAD Studio Helpdesk web.
