How to freeze a viewport layer by picking an object?

A - answer To freeze (off) a particular layer in the current viewport just by selecting an entity in that layer you can use the command LAYFRZ. This command is available since AutoCAD version 2007. In older versions you can use the similar tool from Express Tools.
