Q - question

Two ways of exporting an Inventor assembly to a STL file.

A - answer You can use two methods to publish 3D assemblies (IAM) from Inventor to stereolithografy (STL) files for 3D printing:
  1. Export: I > Export > CAD Format > type STL
  2. 3D print: I > Print > Send to 3D Print Service

Both methods generate identical STL files. In both cases you can set format, resolution (precision) and color support for the generated STL file.

The 3D print method also displays dimensions (volume) of the model in the selected scale. So you can estimate the price of the printed 3D model, or check the printability of the model on a given 3D printer.
