CAD tip # 8024:
Question
A
If you need to load a 3D model from a .SKP file (Google SketchUp modeler) into AutoCAD, you can use two methods:
- DWG export from SketchUp
Export to CAD formats is available in the enhanced version of SketchUp - in "Google SketchUp Pro". First check your units setting in the "Units Panel". In the File menu then choose Export and "3D Model". Select the output format DWG or DXF. With the Options button you can set the version (release) of the DWG format. Similarly you can export the 2D drawing using the optionu "2D Graphics". In this export choose the scale 1:1 - "Full Scale". - Conversion of SKP to DWG
The second option is the conversion of the native SKP format to DWG. For this you can use e.g. Autodesk Revit (import CAD formats - SKP; export CAD formats - DWG), or the free 3D "maker" application Autodesk 123D - this software can load models in the SKP format and save them as DWG files. Since AutoCAD 2013 you can use the SketchUp Import plugin (free) from Autodesk Apps store.
