CAD tip # 7570:
Question
A
AutoCAD supports dimmed (faded) display of drawing objects from xrefs - see the XDWGFADECTL variable. But this applies just for the display. If you wanted to print/plot the drawing, dimming of xref objects was only achievable through assigning plot styles.
Since AutoCAD 2011 you can use layer transparency. In the Layer properties manager select all xref layers (a predefined filter) and change their Transparency level to e.g. 70% (this display fading will combine with the existing fade level). When plotting, make sure you check the "Plot transparency" option - your plot will contain all xref objects plotted as dimmed (in lower intensity).
