Q - question

Rendering of 3D models without background in Autodesk Showcase.

A - answer If you prepare marketing materials (printed ads, web, video), you often need rendered images of 3D CAD models without any background - i.e. with transparent background. Such presentation can be then easily pasted onto any (even animated) background using DTP programs, PhotoShop or a video editor.

Such pictures without background, with so called alpha-channel, can be exported also from Autodesk Showcase (part of Design Suites). Run the publishing function (File > Publish Image(s) or Shift+S) and in the dialog choose the format PSD or TIFF. Check the option "Split into object, shadow and environment layers", resp. "alpha". Load the resulting image into your DTP program.
