Q - question

Simplification of an assembly in Fusion 360 - the shrinkwrap function

A - answer With the following tip you can simulate the function "shrinkwrap" (similar to Inventor) also in Autodesk Fusion 360. It makes use of a "molding" simplification method, using the function "Boundary fill".

You can use it to protect your model (intellectual property), to remove all modeling features and history, for publishing/handover of just a simplified 3D geometry, a dumb "shrinkwrap" outside your company.

First subtract the 3D assembly for an auxiliary wrapping volume. The fill the void using the function "Boundary fill" with a new solid and save it as a separate component. Alternatively, you can directly use the Intersection operation instead of Subtract.

More simplification tools (e.g. replace with primitives) are available in the new function 3D MODEL > EDIT > Simplify.
