Q - question

Digital signature of CAD files in the DWFx format.

A - answer Since version 2010 you can use the free application Autodesk Design Review to add digital signatures (electronic certificates) to your DWFx files with published CAD data to authenticate the content of a DWF file - i.e. that the file was not changed since the moment it was signed. Any change will automatically invalidate the signature.

The digital signature can be added with the function Security > Add Digital Signature in the application menu (top left "D"):

The signature will be immediately saved to the current DWFx file.

You can use any personal certificate installed on your computer to sign the DWF. This functionality uses the standard technology DSS (Digital Signature Standard) based on the public key encryption method DSA (Digital Signature Algorithm) - X509. Such certificate can be bought from any respected certification authority (Verisign/Symantec, Thawte, GeoTrust, Comodo...), or you can create and install your own CA.

The signature status is displayed (at the recipient) on opening the DWFx file, resp. you can display the signature details using the icon in the document canvas header:

Digital signatures are supported for DWFx-type files, not for DWF files. The .CER certification file will be added to the XML archive of the particular DWFx file. You cannot use the system XPS viewer to work with DWFx file signatures.
