Q - question

Vault 2011 reports a check-in date 1.1.0001.

A - answer Autodesk Vault reports that a file was checked-in on 1. 1. 0001 00:00 (or 1/1/0001 12:00 AM) - and this nonsense date causes subsequent problems with the history of "new" revisions of vaulted documents.

Most probably you have not checked-in a Vault document on January 1st after Christ. This problem may occur after the installation of SP2 for Vault 2011. It is solved in the February hotfix for Vault 2011 sp2 - DL16428729.
