Q - question

Edit the Fusion 360 CAM tool library using Excel.

A - answer Fusion 360 offers built-in tool libraries, or you can import your own libraries, such as those of tool manufacturers. But you can also edit tool parameters and add your own tools.

Export of tool libraries as CSV files allows bulk editing of tool libraries in e.g. MS Excel, team cooperations, renaming and other bulk operations.

In the Tool library dialog (MANUFACTURING > MANAGE > Tool library), right-click on the selected library a choose Export:

As the file type, select "Comma delimited values". Note: for some Excel/Windows localizations (e.g. German, Czech) you may need to replace delimiters in the exported CSV file - replace commas with semicolons (e.g. with Notepad) and decimal points with commas.

Now load the file into Excel (just double-click it) and make the required changes. It is necessary to keep the internal parameter name (listed in parentheses in the header). If you want to add a new tool, copy en existing row and in the column "(tool_index)" increment the tool number/ID.

After saving the CSV, then change the delimiters back in the text editor (commas to periods and semicolons to commas) and load the file back into Fusion 360. For example, right-click on the Local tree entry and select Import. Then select your CSV file.
