CAD tip # 10128:
Question
A
When you receive a land map (DWG drawing) created with automatic vectorization or exported from another software (CAD, GIS), the parcel boundaries will be probably represented by individual line segments. If you want to use such map for analysis and linking to other project data, you will need to first convert this trivial geometry to boundary polygons (parcels, lots, counties, objects...).
To perform this conversion, you can use the following procedure in AutoCAD Map 3D or Civil 3D:
- Use the MAPCLEAN command to cleanup the map - line undershoots or overshoots, duplicates, node clusters... (optional)
- Use the MAPTOPOCREATE command to create polygon topology
- Use the MAPCLPLINE command to convert the topology to closed boundary polygons (plus optional parcel centroids)
