Q - question

How to convert a Revit file to STEP (.rvt to .stp)

A - answer Conversion of 3D models from Revit projects and families (.RVT, .RFA) to the neutral CAD format STEP is currently (versions <=2013) not possible to perform in a single step - you need two conversions.

First save the model in Autodesk Revit to the SAT format (ACIS) and then convert this file using e.g. the free application Inventor Fusion (also included in AutoCAD) to a file in the STEP format (or IGES, Parasolid/.x_t, Inventor/.ipt, CATIA/.CATpart, etc.).
