In a recent blog post I highlighted our Autodesk Media & Entertainment Division's role in the movie industry. Many of you may not be aware that Autodesk has won some prestigious awards in the movie industry.

The award pictured above was for Maya 2002. Autodesk's own industry luminary, Jos Stam, and Maya won this award for the fluid dynamics in Maya.

This is the capability used by movie makers to simulate effects like smoke and water.

With a few red lights, a few old beds,
We had a place to sweat.
No matter what we get out of this,
I know, I know we'll will never forget
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

iPhone users can experience how computational fluid dynamics work in Maya with a free iPhone app:

So even when it comes to award winning Hollywood special effects, "there's an app for that."

Taking time to reminisce is alive in the lab.
