every time i change my UCS from world to/from a custom alignment, my xref/modelspace zooms-extents

it didnt do this before yesterday, so I'm hoping there's a setting somewhere that's gone awol... I want to be able to switch UCS without it affecting my zoom status.

can anyone help me put this back how it was?

EDIT: I'm working on an airport runway which is straight, though not at 0° for world coordinates - there's about a 6° tilt that this project has when in world coordinates & without rotating the UCS view. I usually rotate the view by entering UCS / E / (pick a line parallel to the runway/aligned with my desired 0°), then type PLAN / (enter) / (enter).
But now whenever i'm in this custom view and i switch from UCSworld to UCS something else, the whole modelspace gets zoomed to extents AND it resets my view to have that 6° skew!

any help appreciated
