 Topic: Best CAD Software form Drafting (draughting)

This topic may have been discussed previously, sorry if it has. I couldn't find it by searching.
I would like to know if there is consensus on what the best CAD package is for simply doing drafting work. I have a small office that does strictly architectural drafting work. It is all construction drawings on small projects so no fancy 3D rendering, BIM, energy modeling etc. is required. I am using Autocad at the moment but I am looking for something to make the job faster.
So I would like to know if there is a best system for making architectural construction drawings.

Revit might be a real stretch if not overkill for a small office, John, both in terms of first cost and training. AutoCAD Architecture (http://usa.autodesk.com/autocad-architecture/) might be a better fit if the OP isn't already using it. That part wasn't completely clear.

Thanks guys. I think I will trial Autocad Architecture. It certainly seems to be targeted at my application. I was a little shocked at the cost involved but if I can but myself 30% more hours in a day I guess there is a payback there.

Given your company description I have a hunch that product may be right in your sweet spot, and able to automate a lot of things you've probably spent many hours customizing. A solid 30-day trial should be enough to tell whether it's worth it for you or not.

Did you ever tried Catia or Unigraphics?

I used both Catia and UG in a pervious life, in automotive design, but hadn't thought about them for Architecture. Will they run on a PC? When I worked in auto. they ran on some kind of unix work station.

Before considering a switch to Catia or Uni you might want to stop and think about the ramifications of doing so. Do you ever provide copies of your drawings to other companies so they can complete some aspect of the design?
