Q - question

Engraving pictures - from bitmaps to 3D models.

A - answer With the application Autodesk Mudbox you can easily convert a bitmap image to a 3D model. The shade of the individual pixels in the texture image defines the offset (extrusion) of the respective points on the 3D model.

This procedure can be used e.g. for engraving operations (logos, texts), for complex shapes which would be difficult to model, for modelling terrain reliefs, for arts and similar purposes.

An example of making a 3D model for AutoCAD is illustrated in the video #35
