Q - question

Compare AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT - what are the key differences?

A - answer Both AutoCAD and its limited version, AutoCAD LT share the same technology, the file format - DWG - and the publishing format - DWF.

The function set of AutoCAD LT is limited in these key areas:

  • 3D functionality (editing, solids)
  • Sheet set management
  • Dynamic blocks authoring (some versions)
  • Data links
  • Customization (AutoLISP, ARX, VBA, .NET)
  • Presentation graphics (truecolor, rendering)
  • CAD standards management
  • Network licensing and CAD manager tools
  • Express Tools
  • Database connectivity
  • User profiles
  • Performance (some operations and not accelerated)
  • Advanced features (attaching images, nonrectangular viewports, xref clipping, align, sketch, extended attribute export, layer translator, DWG encryption, macro recording, autotrace, regions, gradients, undefine...)
And of course there is a price difference - LT costs about 25% of the full AutoCAD. But rather compare AutoCAD LT to the more advanced "vertical" versions of the full AutoCAD - AutoCAD Mechanical, Architecture, Electrical, MEP, Map, Civil 3D, P&ID.
