Hi guys
Can anyone here recommend a 2D CAD freeware for mechanical design applications? One of our fitter engineers is wanting a package to create basic 2D layout drawings with to put concept proposals forward to the Design office and is looking for something a lot better that trying to draw in MSWord. I've done a quick search and can see offerings such as FreeCAD, LibreCAD, DataCAD LT, QCAD to name a few. Has anyone tried these packages and can make a recommendation for which they think is the best for creating 2D engineering drawings? Many thanks.

Depends on the industry. Solidworks and CATIA have a lot of market share. It's usually not that hard to switch platforms if your technique is sound though. I'm on my fourth CAD software as a pro user, and have some exposure to a couple others. Not saying this to say I'm great, more that they share one of a couple basic approaches.
