Greeting all
I am new to forum and I have a question with regard to insert block. Is the a way to allow auto cad to accept an identical name from another drawing. At works , we splitting our drawing up into smaller drawings, updating block using refedit and then copy it back to the master drawing. But because the master drawing already has the same block name, changed make to the blocks in the small drawing are not update and ignored. Is the a way to updating this, rather changing the block name every times.

Thanks all.

You want to be able to have two blocks with the exact same name in one drawing?

Thank for you input John, I want to know if there is a way, that you can cut & paste a same name block from one drawing into another drawing and have the existing block updated, instead of being ignored by autocad if the existing block have the same name.

A bit confusion, but as last post, my drawing is divided into small drawings so we can work on seperate components. After the components are finished, we bring copy and past them back to the master assembly.

If i am working alone on the drawing, then there would be no problem. But if someone is taking over my project, and they dont realised that when cut & past blocks with the same name from the component drawing into the master assembly, will be ignored by cad. Thus the changes make from the components drawing will be discarded.

First, take the block that you've edited and want to use in the other drawings and WBLOCK it out to a common directory.  Then, in the other drawings that you want to 'redefine' the block in, use the INSERT command, select the block from the files list and say yes when prompted if you want to REDEFINE the block.  Or, use the -Insert command, and at the "Enter block name or [?] prompt enter   [NAME OF BLOCK]=[NAME OF BLOCK]  Acad will respond with "Block "[NAME OF BLOCK] already existings.  Redefine it? [Yes/No] <N>:  answer Yes.  When it asks you for the insertion point, hit escape.  Your block has just been redefined to match the one  you WBLOCKED to the drive.

What do any of these have to do with the original question?  Try to stick to the topic at hand.
