Q - question

Error: Unknown dictionary or Cannot read custom dictionary.

A - answer This error message when editing text, or when explicitely checking spelling indicates an invalid language- or custom-dictionary of allowed words.

Please check the existence of these dictionaries and their setting in AutoCAD.

You can set dictionaries in the Options dialog: Files > Text Editor, Dictionary, and Font File Names > Main Dictionary - check the arrow position for your language - and Custom dictionary file (a path to your CUS file). You can also change your AutoCAD variable DCTMAIN to the value of e.g. deu (for German) and DCTCUST (a path to your .cus file).

The main dictionary (.dct file) must be accessible in the Support subfolder of the AutoCAD installation folder. The .cus file should by a plain ASCII text file (not a DOC from Word) containing allowed word spellings for spellcheck.
