There are two types of PLT files (drivers) for printing on DesignJet 500 - PCL3 (raster; universal but large) or HPGL/2 (only for DnJ500 with the optional HPGL card). Make sure you are not e.g. printing HPGL/2 file on a plotter without the HPGL/2 card.
