CAD tip # 14433:
Question
A
Using Google's standard Model-Viewer component, you can use AR (augmented reality) on mobile devices to display an automatically positioned interactive 3D model exported from your CAD application, e.g. Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit, Fusion, etc.
This is for presentation purposes, the view model is not referenced to the same point in the photo-scanned reality (e.g. a pipe is not projected to the corresponding point in the project).
Examples of several models can be found in the "AR GLB viewer" tool here in the Converters section. On a mobile device, go to AR viewer or take a picture of this QR code:
On your mobile device, then allow access to the camera so it can align the 3D model to your "photographed" scene. You can then "walk around" the scene as needed. On a desktop, instead of AR, just a standard 3D viewer will appear.
The input format for this AR viewer is the GLB (glTF) binary format.
For professional AR solutions, choose Autodesk VRED, Workshop XR, or one of the AR add-ons for BIM projects in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
