Q - question

DWG thumbnail is not displayed with some files. Why?

A - answer If the drawing thumbnail is not displayed in the Open dialog or in your Windows Explorer, it may be simply caused by that the particular DWG file does not contain any thumbnail picture:
  • e.g. the thumbnail saving was disabled (the variable THUMBSAVE)
  • or the DWG file was saved with WBLOCK
  • or the file is not a DWG format, just a DWG extension (stored from one of the AutoCAD imitations)
  • or it is a drawing in a very old version of the DWG format, which might store a different type of thumbnail
