Q - question

How to make saving to older versions of DWG (SAVEAS) faster?

A - answer If you use annotation scales, AutoCAD automatically performs recalculations of visual fidelity of annotation objects while saving to older DWG formats (< 2010). This may take up to tens of seconds with extensive scale lists and large drawings, and so it slows down the DWG save process substantially - compared to the default saving of DWGs in the current version.

Make sure your drawing file does not contain unneccessarily long annotation scales list (see SCALELISTEDIT). You can also disable the visual fidelity recalculations for displaying annotation objects in older versions - set the system variable SAVEFIDELITY to 0. Saving time will be shorter.

If your drawing contains loaded VBA macros (DVB) and you are running a 64-bit Windows version, all operations may be substantially slowed down (incl. Save and SaveAs) - VBA runs in an emulated environment as this VBA version is not supported by Microsoft in 64-bit.
