Q - question

How to demote an Inventor assembly to a part?

A - answer (convert an IAM assembly to an IPT part)

Start a new part (finish the sketch mode) and use the Derived Component command. Select the original .IAM assembly. You can choose the components you want to include on the target part and set other options. Save the resultion .IPT file.

You may want to break the link to the original assembly. Right-click on the derived part in the model tree and use the Break link (unreversible, broken chain icon) or the Suppress link (reversible, striked-out gray chain icon, available since R10) function.
