I have scoured the autodesk site and the rest of the internet but can't a direct answer. Does 2018 allow you to set the default file format to a previous version? Specifically 2017.

The file type did change and yes, you can save to previous file types.
I stand corrected. The file format for 2018 did indeed change. It was the desktop icon that did not change. However, you can still save to an earlier version of AutoCAD using the "Saveas" option. We're currently saving to the 2010 file format. Edited by John Connor - 04.May.2017 at 11:27 |

Thank-you. The autodesk site talks about the file format change from 17 to 18 but i'll be damned if I can find anything about still being able to set the default file format to a previous version.

There is NO option for saving to a 2017 file format. The first option listed below the 2018 file format is 2013, followed by 2010, 2007, 2004, 2000, and R14.

Your search skills appear to be a bit rusty. The information you were looking for is posted on the AutoDesk website under the heading "AutoCAD Drawing File Formats" dated Mar 30, 2017. Here is the link if you don't believe me. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-drawing-file-format.html |

2013 and 2017 are the same DWG file versions. You can preset the default file version in Options > Open and Save > File save
