Unless this image is a duplicate that you just want to get rid of, you don't want to delete it. That won't get rid of it. You want to Detach it. Open your Image Manager, select the image and click the "Detach" button.

If you're going to delete the image, why not just turn the image frame on then delete the image?
Set IMAGEFRAME = 1 Good Luck!! |

I would think you couldn't.
From your AutoCAD Help file:
