Q - question

Adding local AutoCAD help to Civil 3D 2011.

A - answer By default, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 uses local CHM help files (for both Civil and AutoCAD functions) to display localized contents for the Help function (F1).

But if you run only a plain AutoCAD from the Civil 3D installation and you don't want to use the default online help from the Autodesk web site (i.e. you switch to the local help in Options > System), on the next invoke of Help (F1) AutoCAD displays the error "Help - File not found" (AutoCAD help files cannot be found in the specified location).

The remedy is simple - just copy the help files (all, but especially .HTML, .JS and .GIF files, including subfolders) from the Civil installation media - from the folder (language dependent) en-US\Docs\ to the Civil Help directory - typically C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011\Help\. You don't need to restart AutoCAD.
