Q - question

Stress analysis of weldment assemblies in Inventor.

A - answer Since Inventor Professional version 2010 you can perform stress analysis of weldments (weldment assemblies, plus other assemblies) with the included FEM module.

In the System environment ribbon choose Stress Analysis. Choose Create Simulation (Manage) and in the panel Contacts choose Automatic to create a contact set from the assembly (weldment). Specify the material properties (you can also define new materials), define the forces and then pick Solve > Simulate.

For complex, symmetrical models you should perform the calculation only on half- or quarter-models.
