STEP file from ProE is loaded into Inventor with part numbers, not names.

A - answer An imported assembly STEP file is displayed in Inventor browser with part names only as simple numbers, not their true names. E.g. "Pin_9020503_801p5" shown only as "3256". Part files are named properly.

On the ribbon tab Assembly > Productivity open the full function list and choose "Rename Browser Nodes".

In the settings dialog then select the "New name" as "File name":
