Q - question

Thumbnails have incorrect size after exporting the BOM to Excel.

A - answer Using the Customize option, I added the thumbnails column with 3D thumbnails of the components to my BOM in Autodesk Inventor. After exporting this bill of material to Excel, the thumbnail images are wider than the dedicated table column and overlap in height as well.

The option to export thumbnails from a BOM is available in Inventor since release 2018.1. In versions earlier than 2023, the exported thumbnail size may be incorrect, but is usually fixed in a subsequent Inventor update. For example, in Inventor 2022, use Update 2022.1 or higher to fix it, in Inventor 2021, use Update 2021.3.2 or higher.

By adjusting the column width in Excel, you can fine-tune the correct aspect ratio of the preview thumbnails.
