New CAD tools

We offer many of our utilities as free or shareware CAD tools for download. Recently released or updated CAD utilities:

• ImgConvert - embed attached images into DWG, generate QR Codes and other raster tools for AutoCAD
• PatOut - export hatch pattern definitions from a DWG back to a .PAT file
• PlotDWGarr + LayDWGarr - this tool plots a rectangular array of drawings from the DWG modelspace, or generate a set of layouts automatically.
• SelDB - select dynamic blocks by their dynamic properties. This extends the functionality of QSelect and Filter.
• ACADtweet - Twitter for AutoCAD - send and read tweets (statuses) directly from AutoCAD command line (a .NET tool).

Vasari - new "Revit LT" BIM tool

As a surprising move, Autodesk has relesed a lightweight version of Revit - "Project Vasari". Vasari is intended to use as a conceptual 3D tool and energy analysis tool for early phases of BIM design. This time-limited "technology preview" tool is available for free as a streaming or local application.

New Inventor Fusion TP4

A new version of Autodesk Inventor Fusion, a 3D CAD software with innovative direct manipulation user interface, is available on the Autodesk Labs web site.

Fusion TP4 adds surfacing, with import of Parasolid, Rhino and IGES file formats, simplification wizard, copy/paste of AutoCAD sketches and several new modeling and menu functions. Fusion is also available as a native 64-bit application. You can download it or run it as a streaming application.

Beta of the new AutoCAD 2012 has started

The next release of AutoCAD is in development - new AutoCAD 2012 is codenamed "Ironman". If you want to test beta versions of AutoCAD and other Autodesk software, register at the Autodesk Beta site.
